Inspired by the theme of the Portuguese discoveries, Bartolomeu Bistro & Wine is named after the Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu Dias. Born in 1450, he was a nobleman of the Portuguese royal household. In 1488, he was the first person to sail around the southernmost tip of Africa, setting up the route from Europe to Asia. Dias is the first European to land at what is present-day South Africa.
Bartolomeu Bistro & Wine is part and parcel of the “Torel 1884 – Suites & Apartments”, a luxury boutique establishment that opened in February 2019. Located in the heart of Porto, this is the latest project by the Torel Boutiques group.
Torel Boutiques is the story of three people whose paths crossed in Lisbon when all of them had decided to change their lives: Joao Pedro Tavares, Barbara Ott, and Ingrid Koeck. Starting with the luxury boutique establishment “Torel Palace” in Lisbon in 2013, the group expanded in 2017 with the beach escape “Torel Cliff” near Óbidos, and the award-winning five-star art boutique hotel “Torel Avantgarde” in Porto, which features the refined restaurant “Digby”. All our establishments encompass the spirit of comfort and refinement, providing dedicated service, and hosting our guests in a very personal manner.
